In the US, for example, the Federal Trade Commission requires that all VOIP telephones not equipped with 911 capacities and capabilities bear a sticker that notifies the user of this. The FCC also requires that all VOIP phones support the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement wire tapping capabilities. Other countries, such as some in Latin America, have outlawed or heavily regulated the use of VOIP phones because of supposed security threats.
